U11BB Provincial Champions!!

Apr. 13, 2022

Our Ayr Rockets U11BB team had great success throughout the year, ending the regular season with a record of 17-2-1. The only two losses of the season came early, facing the well-coached Woodstock Wildcats team. The athletes went on to meet the Wildcats on two more occasions in regular season play, and won both. Following a Covid shut down in the month of January, the Rockets finished at the top of the Southwest Division in the OWHL Southern League.

The U11BB Ayr Rockets faced the Orangeville Tigers in the Southern League Quarter Final round winning 7-1 advancing them to the Southern League Semi Final against a tough Oakville Hornets team. Our athletes were able to top the Hornets 4-2 in a tough battle here in Ayr at the NDCC.

On Saturday, April 2nd the U11BB team traveled to Toronto for the Southern League Championship game against the undefeated Belleville Bearcats.

Ayr and Belleville were evenly matched through the first 2 periods with the score remaining 0-0. Early in the third, Ayr scored to take the lead 1-0. With the final minutes counting down in the third period, Belleville pulled their goalie. Ayr maintained pressure, and was able to capitalize, scoring an empty netter and AYR ROCKETS U11BB WINS!!

OWHL Southern League CHAMPIONS!

The following weekend, the U11BB team travelled to Brampton for the OWHA Provincial Championships.

The Ayr Rockets U11BB athletes went undefeated in round robin play, putting away the Clarington Flames (7-1), Haldimand Rivercats (4-2) and the Central York Panthers (8-1).

Advancing to the quarter final game, Ayr took down the Clearview Ice Cats (6-0).

Advancing to Championship Sunday, the semi-final game offered a rematch with the tough Belleville Bearcats. Once again, Ayr bested the Bearcats (2-1) in a hard fought contest.

With the match up set for the OWHA Provincial Championship game against our league division rival the Woodstock Wildcats.

Ayr came out hot and went ahead 1-0 early on, and maintained the lead until the first seconds of the third period, Woodstock scored to tie it up. At the end of regulation play, our Rockets were tiring as they only have 10 skaters and one fantastic goalie, playing 6 games over 3 days. Less than 2 minutes into the 10 minute sudden death overtime period, our Ayr Rockets scored and AYR ROCKETS U11BB WINS!!!

OWHA Provincial CHAMPIONS!

These athletes worked hard all year to be named Best of the Best for U11BB in 2021-2022!!!

This has NEVER been accomplished by our small Ayr Rockets organization since we began in 2009.

Way to go athletes, you should be proud of all you accomplished this season!
